Crochet for a Cause

Outreach for the homeless in our area.  We are crocheting sleeping mats out of plastic shopping bags.  No experience is necessary to get involved in this ministry.  We have folders who flatten the bags and fold them lengthwise, cutters who cut the bags into 3 inch loops using a rotary cutter and cutting mat and loopers who loop the bag slices together to form a loooong chain of plastic yarn (plarn).  The plarn is then crocheted into sleeping mats approximately 3 feet wide by 6 feet long.  Our mats insulate against cold and dampness, are lightweight and portable.

Community Sharing

Community Sharing is a charitable outreach center providing food, clothing, educational and emergency assistance to those residents in need in the Milford and Highland area as well as Stratford Villa and Commerce Meadows in Wixom.  Here at Saint George's we collect non-perishable foods and deliver them monthly to Community Sharing.

We also collect clothing items year round and deliver them with our monthly food donations.  Each Fall we have a 'Mitten Tree' where we collect warm items: scarves, hats, mittens, gloves and coats.  These items are donated to Community Sharing to give to those in need.

Saint George's works closely with Community Sharing when a financial need arises.  Through our support we have helped clients from utilities being shut off to evictions from homes.  To find out more about Community Sharing or to donate, please go to their WEBSITE.

Medical Supplies Drive

Many of us have used walkers, canes, wheelchairs, crutches that we are storing in our basement, garage or attic.  What do you do with these items when you no longer need them?  Saint George's has partnered with World Medical Relief, Inc. as a drop-off site for these items and more.
