Battling Hunger with a Garden

June 8th - Planting the Garden
Last summer's garden was a big success! The plants nestled in and soaked up the Milford sunlight and heat.  Kate from the Milford Times
took a few photos and interviewed Walt and Cathy.  A number of fresh vegetables were produced to help supplement the canned and boxed foods provided to local people by Community Sharing.

Shown are (L-R) Victoria Behnke, Eileen Herbst, Cathy Behnke, Walt Dawson (our priest), and Laura Dawson as they planted a vegetable garden on the church grounds to draw attention to world hunger and to help diminish hunger locally.

Last summer we planted the garden to provide vegetables for Community Sharing. Usually people donate non-perishable items to the food pantry, but we thought that it would be a nice addition to have something fresh during harvest season.

It is nice to have a visible reminder to the parish and community of the outreach work we do. If we get good results, we plan to make it a summer tradition. It is a good way to "love our neighbors as ourselves".

If you have any questions or need further information, please let me know.
